2012: Goalkeeper David Martin signed professional terms with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on March 16, 2012, having spent preseason with the team after impressing during an open tryout. Martin, 24, occupies the number 1 jersey for the 2012 season.
Martin is the current second-choice goalkeeper for the club. On May 22, Martin made his professional debut with the Strikers in the U.S. Open Cup Second Round match against Fresno Fuego, making four saves in the 7-2 victory.
Amateur: Ahead of the 2011 season, Martin joined the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves of the National Premier Soccer League, the fourth tier of the United States soccer pyramid.
The team finished fourth in the Southeast Division with 14 points from ten games during Martin’s time at the club.
College: Martin played four seasons of college soccer at University of North Carolina at Charlotte between 2006 and 2009. As a freshman he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. Martin finished the season with a 0.81 goals against average, tied for the lowest in the conference and the third lowest in school history.
