Strikers come off the weekend and a hard fought 2-0 loss to MLS side New York Red Bulls. The team performed well against a start studded Red Bulls side that included the talents of Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez, and Juan Agudelo but the Strikers were unable to find the net. However, the Strikers did look dangerous on the counter attack and were very close to equalizing on a number of occasions, before New York scored their second goal late around minute 75. The team will look to build on the scrimmage in the coming weeks of preseason and have several more friendly matches in the coming month.
-Training this morning started off as usual with a quick warm but an extended stretch was required because of the match on Saturday.
-The first part of the session began with work on the team’s fitness with long distance runs in groups of three.
-After the fitness training the team broke into smaller groups and began drills that tested their ball control and passing with quick touches around cones placed closely together.
-Coach Shore and his staff want to build their player’s leg strength and stamina over the coming weeks of preseason.
-Fitness tests and training will be a huge part of the training that the team will go through in the coming weeks.
-Training ended with a short 11 v 11 scrimmage
- The afternoon session will be more geared towards tactics and open play with the Strikers’ next friendly coming up later this week.
