Tim Robbie Q&A Recap

On Friday, Strikers fans turned to our social media outlets to send their questions to Managing Director Tim Robbie for a live Q&A session.
Here’s the recap:
Q: Any plans for a new stadium?
We continue to explore a number of different possibilities for a soccer-specific stadium for the Strikers. Right now we’re still in the early stages of the process, and will continue to take the necessary steps in order to determine whether we ultimately can succeed in our quest for a new facility.
Q: What are some potential locations for the new Strikers stadium?
Without getting into specifics, our preference would be to have the team remain in Broward County—due to its central location in terms of the South Florida population—but we’re not ruling out other sites that come to our attention.
Q: Are there any official architectural designs of a new stadium/renovated Lockhart? Or are you just focusing on location right now?
We have done some stadium renderings in their most basic form, but we’re not at the stage yet where it would make sense to have anything of any significant detail.
Q: How is the team looking this year?
We’re pleased with the way the team is shaping up for the upcoming season. We have a solid core of returning players and have added a good mix of experienced players and young prospects to the squad. We are also continuing to find local talent to bring into the team, which is one of our core philosophies.
Q: How about some different uniforms?
When you talk about the Strikers uniforms we are always cognizant of the traditional look of the club, which we don’t want to stray too far from with our primary kit. However we are always looking for creative opportunities with our secondary uniforms, or even adding a third kit—which is something we continue to explore—perhaps in time for the Fall season.
Q: Why do you go outside the U.S. for players when there is so much talent here?
Our league only allows us to have seven players on our roster that don’t have U.S. citizenship, so more than 70% of our roster will be comprised of American players.
Q: Do you have any plans to start a Strikers Soccer Academy?
In order for that to happen we would first need facilities to accommodate it. That may be something we explore in the future if we are successful in our efforts to obtain a soccer-specific facility with the infrastructure to accommodate adjoining training fields.
Q: Have the Strikers explored any possible local TV deals?
Yes. We are always exploring broadcast opportunities, both on television and radio.
Q: Have you seen the Philadelphia Union stadium in Chester? Any chances that if you guys build a soccer-specific stadium it will be small and intimate like that one?
I have seen photos of the Union’s facility, and it looks like the kind of facility we would love to have here in South Florida. Obviously an intimate setting with covered grandstands would be ideal for the Strikers and our fans.
Q: How happy are you to have Soccer Tom [Mulroy] as president?
It’s good for the organization to have someone of his caliber involved. Tom and I work well together, and I think we complement each other. His community outreach initiative is going very well.
