FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (JULY 5, 2011) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have agreed to a contract extension with goalkeeper Matt Glaeser. Glaeser, whose contract was set to expire at the end of this season, is now signed through the end of next season with an option for 2013.
“Matt has tremendous potential to continue developing and get even better,” said Strikers General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “Matt believed in us from day one. We presented him with a project and he had the vision to understand it made sense for his career. He worked very hard to get to where he is, but the road in front of him is still a long one. We are happy we have come to terms with him so that he stays within the Strikers family.”
Glaeser is third in the NASL in goals against average (GAA) at 1.00. In the month of June, Glaeser collected two shutouts and allowed four goals in five games. On the season, the Strikers are 2-6-1 (W-T-L) with Glaeser starting in goal. Glaeser is tied for second place in the NASL with four shutouts this year.
Glaeser grew up in Virginia and played collegiately at both James Madison University and the University of Hartford where he was named the America East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. After college, Glaeser played a period with the USL2’s Western Mass Pioneers and Finnish club Pallo-lirot. Glaeser joined Miami FC in 2010.
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers next game is at Lockhart Stadium on Saturday, July 9, against the Atlanta Silverbacks at 7:30p.m. All Strikers games are streamed live online at STRIKERS.com.
