Miami FC announces the acquisition of Aaron Wheeler from FC Tampa Bay. The Blues also pick up options on the following players: Zach Kirby, Paulinho Le Petit, and Matt Glaeser.
Coach Daryl Shore stated, “We are happy to have Matt, Paulinho and Zach back for 2011. Matt showed in our last five games that he has a great presence in goal and we look forward to watching him grow as a goalkeeper for us. Paulinho is fast and versatile player, who we think will develop into a real dangerous weapon in this league. We are equally happy to have Zach back again as we continue to build our core group for 2011. Zach’s leadership abilities and his strong defensive play will be a key to our success next year,” .
Glaeser, who started for Miami FC during the last five games of the 2010 season, went undefeated in his time between the posts .
Kirby was a four-time Georgia state champion for the club soccer team United Red Quest and was a second-round draft pick in the 2007 MLS Supplementary Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy. He has spent the last two seasons with The Blues and was named captain in the beginning of 2010 season.
Paulinho Le Petit returns to Miami FC after a promising rookie season. The versatile midfielder played 14 games for the Blues, and showing why he is one of the premiere young players in the NASL.
“We are excited to add Aaron to our roster for 2011 and believe he will fit into our group of forwards nicely. He gives us another target up top and we look forward to having him join us,” added Miami FC head coach Daryl Shore.
Wheeler, a Maryland native, led his high school to the 2005 Baltimore County championship title and was later named a two-time NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region First Team selection, as well as a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference First Team member.
