First 1,500 kids 16 and under receive a FREE regulation size Strikers ball
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 16, 2013) – The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will face the 2013 Spring Champions Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, October 19th, at 7:30 p.m. at historic Lockhart Stadium. The Strikers will give away a FREE regulation size Strikers soccer ball to the first 1,500 kids, 16 and under, that arrive at the stadium on Saturday night. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. so fans can enjoy the Strikers Fan Zone interactive area which features live music and activities for the whole family.
In the last game, the Strikers were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rowdies by a score of 2-1 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. Martin Nuñez scored his team-leading fourth goal in the first half off a cross from Yaikel Perez.
“We played a really good game (against Tampa Bay), we shouldn’t have lost there,” said Strikers head coach Günter Kronsteiner. “They are a little bit down because of this loss, so I need to bring them back up. We looked at the film from the game and saw the mistakes we did. You can lose games when you’re the better team, and you can win games where you are the weaker team. This is how it is in soccer. I thought we were the better team the last game, we had more ball possession, but we didn’t score. That’s still something we have to improve.”
The Strikers last played the Silverbacks on the road on August 24th and came back with a 1-0 victory. The team had a big night from their two FC Dallas loans Bradlee Baladez and Richard Sanchez. Sanchez kept a clean sheet with several key saves in the match, including a final few minutes that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Baladez scored his first goal in a Strikers uniform to give the visiting team the win.
“We should be able to win this next game, even though I think this team (Atlanta) is definitely one of the best in the league,” said Kronsteiner. “We are at the same level as anyone else in the league.”
